The Iron County Commission approved the sale of a county-owned, exhausted gravel pit near Burrell Junction for $17,000 during its Sept. 20 meeting. Chair opened a public hearing for the parcel (APN ED-1387-12, parcel number 187390) and said staff had completed the required two-week notice.
Public works staff reported the pit is “used up” and that an appraisal by Jason Bushnell returned a valuation of $17,000. With no public opposition at the hearing, Commissioner Blake moved to approve the sale and a fellow commissioner seconded the motion. Chair called for a voice vote and declared the motion carried.
Commissioners said the county’s direct loss from the transaction would be limited to the appraisal cost because the parcel no longer yields rock or gravel for county use. Staff told commissioners they would coordinate closing arrangements with the buyer, Eldon Harker.
The sale was approved by voice vote; the commission did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting minutes. The county clerk and public-works staff will complete the necessary paperwork and recording for the property transfer.
