Fitchburg Disability Commission approves March minutes, votes to print business cards and addresses local accessibility concerns

Commission member Bill Tolos reported at the April 8, 2026 Fitchburg Disability Commission meeting that accessible ("HP") parking signs were installed at the Federal building parking lot near the Upper Common after Councilor Van Hazinga contacted Brando Russell at the General Services Administration.
The commission approved the minutes from its March 2026 meeting after a motion and second (vote tally not specified in the minutes). The group also voted to have commission business cards printed after a request from Commission member Cap Corduam.
Commission member Carolyn Quirk announced an "All Abilities" acrylic art workshop at the Senior Center in May that will be free and open to people of all abilities. Quirk said the work will be shown in a spring art exhibit in the Senior Center fireplace room and that she will lead a May tour of the Fitchburg Art Museum.
Commissioners reviewed recent resident complaints about the ramp at the Senior Center. A member reported the ramp has been patched but said the condition requires further review. A resident and military veteran attended the meeting to raise accessibility concerns; commissioners said a consultant assisting the city with an update to its Self Evaluation and Transition Plan will review the Senior Center facility and its programs.
The commission welcomed new member DJ Tardiff. Commission member Emily Stark said a sensory-friendly movie will be shown at Hammond Hall in room G01 the week of May 4, and she will send a flyer to Commission member Amy LeBlanc for posting on the city's social media. The library will partner on a Family Game Night during school vacation (April 20–24); Cap Corduam will confirm the date and Tardiff will ask Monty Tech for assistance with a flyer.
The commission authorized Bill Tolos to send a letter to the owner of the rear building at Parkhill Plaza describing access problems and requesting consideration of a curbcut update; Amy LeBlanc will provide the owner's address from the city property card. The meeting adjourned at 10:46 a.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for May 13, 2026, in the West Room at Fitchburg City Hall.
