Beachwood adopts four‑way stop near Ocean Avenue Park; council introduces fee and zoning ordinance changes

The Borough of Beachwood Mayor and Council adopted Ordinance 2026-1 on Feb. 4 to add four‑way stop designations at several intersections, including Ocean Avenue and Birch Street and Harpoon Street and Barnegat Boulevard. Mayor William J. Cairns said the four‑way stop is intended to improve safety before and after Ocean Avenue Park and thanked Police Chief Dan Altman and DPW Director T.J. Wrocklage for their work on the matter.
Council also introduced, on first reading, a package of ordinances to be heard at public hearing Feb. 18: Ord. 2026-2 would add a $75 pre‑rental inspection fee for Mayo Park and Community Center rentals; Ord. 2026-3 would raise transfer‑of‑title, annual rental permit and reinspection fees; Ord. 2026-4 would increase residential and commercial zoning permit and certificate‑of‑continued‑occupancy fees; and Ord. 2026-5 would authorize sale of Borough‑owned property (Block 10.28, Lot 2 on Longboat Avenue) to the Ocean County Vocational School under N.J.S.A. 40A:12‑13. The clerk published notices and set Feb. 18, 2026 at 6 p.m. for the public hearings on those first readings.
The council’s action on the four‑way stop was taken after the hearing opened and closed with no public comment; roll call adopting the ordinance is recorded in the meeting minutes.
