Beachwood appoints DPW laborer, authorizes SLEO II hire and code‑enforcement appointment; sick leave approved

Chief Daniel Altman was authorized to hire Austin P. Dinklage as a Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II) upon successful completion of background checks; the position was authorized at an hourly rate of $22.00 (Resolution 2026-67).
Following executive session, the council adopted Resolution 2026-71 appointing Terrence Merrill as a regular Code Enforcement Officer under the New Jersey State Civil Service rules for veterans, conditioned on a successful police background check and a working test period. The resolution specifies a weekly schedule (Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and an annual salary of $45,000, with benefits and pension enrollment to follow a successful working test period.
The council also approved sick leave for Cliff Schiel of the Department of Public Works Division of Water effective on or about Feb. 2, 2026, with an anticipated return date of March 9, 2026 (Resolution 2026-72).
