Committee members questioned his role in initiating a petition to force a special election for a Board of Assessment Appeals seat and asked how his prior actions had benefited the town and how he would handle disagreements on the GBTA.
Pettinella said more than 20 people signed the petition and described himself as "one small sliver of that whole group," defending his involvement. Carl Massaro spoke in favor of the appointment, saying Pettinella brought sincere interest and diligence. The committee recorded the vote as failed, 1-3, and specifically listed Mallozzi, Marsh and Ferrari as voting against the appointment. The minutes do not record how each committee member voted beyond those listed as against.
The committee did not approve the appointment; any further action would require the First Selectman to renominate or the matter to be reconsidered by the Town Council.
