Committee OKs application for Neighborhood Assistance Act credits to support local nonprofits

The Legislation & Administration Committee of the Town of Trumbull voted May 26 to authorize the town to apply to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services under the Neighborhood Assistance Act on behalf of multiple nonprofit organizations.
The resolution (TC31-43), moved by Kelly Mallozzi and seconded by Carl Massaro, would include applications for Make A Wish Foundation of CT ($15,000); Mutual Housing Association of Southwestern CT ($91,800); Saint Vincent’s Medical Center ($150,000); Patrons of Trumbull Nature & Arts Center, Inc. ($10,520); and four applications from The Kennedy Collective totaling $145,000. The committee passed the resolution without recommendation by unanimous consent, and the full Town Council will hold a public hearing on June 1, 2026.
The Neighborhood Assistance Act allows tax-credit-eligible corporations to receive tax credits in exchange for contributions to qualifying local programs, including job training, services for low-income and senior residents, programs for residents with disabilities, child care services and open-space acquisition. The resolution names the Town of Trumbull as the applicant and authorizes First Selectman Vicki A. Tesoro, or her designee, to submit the application and sign related forms and reports.
Gia Mentillo of the Economic & Community Development department was noted as unable to attend the committee meeting but was expected to appear at the full council meeting to answer questions. The Town Council will consider the application and any public comments at the scheduled June 1 hearing.
