Jaffrey committee tentatively approves $4.38M in warrant-article requests including paving, sidewalks and EPA lead-testing truck

The Budget Committee on Jan. 11 tentatively approved a warrant-article package totaling $4,375,615 that includes a range of capital reserve funds and supplemental appropriations.
Notable items in the package: a vacuum truck to conduct EPA-mandated lead-and-copper testing for roughly 1,400 houses; a Turnpike PFAS supplemental to cover possible filtration installation at Turnpike Well (bid opening slated for Feb. 3); a road-paving capital reserve fund designed to sustain the town’s 10-year paving plan (the CRF would fund roughly $650,000 of paving capacity per year with current CRF balances and expired debt); and a new annual Sidewalk CRF requesting $100,000 per year to address failing sidewalks under a 10-year reconstruction plan.
Other CRFs reviewed and tentatively funded in the package include highway equipment, fire equipment, police cruiser replacement, bridge rehabilitation (Woodbound Road and Letourneau bridges slated for work), municipal building maintenance, town office creation, land acquisition, and recreation equipment. Committee members discussed the balances and recent appropriations for many funds and noted that some projects will go out to bid in the coming weeks.
On motion by Peter Maki and seconded by Patty Farmer, the committee tentatively approved the warrant-article package 6-0. The warrant-article totals and CRF balances were recorded in the meeting minutes for voters to review before the Feb. 8 public hearing.
