Cleburne council approves temporary $10,000 price for new mausoleum, columbarium and family lots

The Cleburne City Council voted Tuesday to set a temporary price of $10,000 for city‑offered mausoleum, columbarium and family lots for the remainder of the calendar year, reverting to the prior $25,000 price on Jan. 1, 2025.
Cemetery staff told the council that the cemetery master plan adopted last November had set a $25,000 charge per such lot but that no sales have occurred under that price. "We are unanimously recommending that you consider establishing a temporary charge of $10,000 for the sale of these lots through the remainder of the calendar year," staff said. Staff explained that two mausoleums currently exist on the Memorial side, and that 12 lots are available in the phased area, with the first six (road‑facing) proposed for initial sale.
Councilmembers discussed market testing the lower price and noted the lots consume a sizable area of cemetery property. A motion to approve the temporary fee passed unanimously. Staff said the price would revert to the $25,000 level on Jan. 1, 2025, if the council does not act differently after the trial period.
Why it matters: The temporary reduction tests market interest in a new product category for the city and could affect land use within municipal cemetery property if demand is lower or higher than expected.
