Lower Pottsgrove police announce $21,077.64 grant and equipment, training updates

Lower Pottsgrove Police Chief Richard Bell told the Board April 7 that Senator Tracy Pennycuick secured a $21,077.64 grant for the department, funds the department will use toward firearms and training needs.
Bell said the Department has transitioned from Glock .40 caliber handguns to 9 mm Glocks equipped with red dot sights. He said the change has "proven to increase qualification scores at the range, decrease errant rounds, and provide quicker ability to get on target." All but three officers have completed qualification on the new handguns; the remaining officers are scheduled for range time later in the week.
Bell also reported monthly activity totals for March 2025: 1,534 calls for service, 175 traffic citations, three DUI arrests, 28 accident investigations, and 47 criminal investigations. He said three new patrol vehicles have arrived at the dealership and are currently at the upfitter; once upfitting is complete they will be placed into service and older vehicles will be decommissioned.
During public comment, resident Tony Doyle asked about Township drone capability; Bell said the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department shares access to drones through Montgomery County and relies on county assets and certified county operators for incidents that require them.
