The board voted March 11 to reinstate tennis at the Port Jefferson Country Club for one season under a fully self‑funded model: the tennis membership will cover court restoration, operations, maintenance and eventual removal or restoration costs with no expense to village taxpayers. Trustee Ugrinsky described a membership‑driven plan and three bids that were reviewed by the Country Club Management Advisory Committee.
Trustee Ugrinsky said the plan was limited to a one‑season, resurfacing‑level restoration (not a full court rebuild) and that membership fees would be collected in advance to ensure project funding. CCMAC chair Alex Spiegel told the board the initial cap for membership that the group assessed is roughly 60 players for two courts; the committee intends to refine fees and a possible resident/nonresident schedule.
The board then approved a $8,496 contract with Century Tennis Inc. for cleaning, resurfacing and restoration of the courts and authorized Mayor Sheppard to sign the proposal on behalf of the village. Trustees noted the fees and final membership rates will return for further board review.
