The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County voted to keep the county millage rate at 8.512 mills following two advertised public hearings held Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. Chairman Charles Coffey told attendees the rate ‘‘is 8.512’’ and County Manager Thomas Weaver said the figure represents essentially no change from last year.
The hearings were publicly advertised and the county posted a five-year digest history. Coffey noted the county’s gross digest increased by just under $64 million and said that data is available for public inspection. Manager Weaver told the hearing that the proposed rate ‘‘is basically staying the same as last year’’ and confirmed the county and school millage rates were included in the materials.
No members of the public attended either hearing to challenge the rate; at the Aug. 26 session, Coffey closed the hearing after allowing a brief window for speakers. The Commission scheduled a called meeting earlier in the month to finalize the rate and added the official adoption to a subsequent regular meeting agenda.
The decision leaves the county millage unchanged at 8.512 mills; the board directed staff to include the formal adoption on the next regular meeting agenda and to maintain the publicly available digest records for anyone seeking details.
