Camanche — The City Council accepted the resignation of Councilman Wesley (Wes) Frell, effective May 19, 2026, and voted to proceed with an appointment process to fill the vacancy. Staff noted the 60‑day clock to fill the seat begins on the date the resignation was accepted and that voters may petition for a special election if they object to an appointment.
During discussion council considered using a panel interview process similar to a past selection (which had a roughly $7,000 cost) but expressed concern about expense and expediency. Council members agreed the appointment route is preferred initially and a special election can be called if necessary.
Separately, the mayor announced the mayoral appointment of Councilman Tom Clon as mayor pro tem; Clon accepted the appointment. The council recorded roll call votes to accept the resignation and to proceed with the appointment process.
