At its June 1 meeting the Tonganoxie City Council approved several routine but consequential items: an ordinance allowing limited alcohol sales at Tongi Days, fireworks sales permits for the July 4 period, authorization for a police mobile data terminal purchase, and authorization to advertise a street-maintenance request for proposals.
Ordinance No. 1550: Staff presented a draft ordinance (prepared and reviewed by the city attorney) that would exempt the Tongi Days event (scheduled June 13 in Gallagher Park and surrounding areas) from city prohibitions on alcohol consumption and sale for a limited time and purpose under the cited Kansas statute. The ordinance identifies County Road Brewing and 1866 Bar and Grill as proposed alcohol vendors. Miss McCutchen moved to adopt Ordinance 1550 and the motion carried on voice vote.
Fireworks permits: Staff reported the city allows fireworks sales and discharge from June 30 to July 4 under city regulations and that three applications had been submitted, including a new applicant at County Road Brewing (1601 Commerce Drive). The fire department reviewed applications and had no concerns; council approved the permits on a voice vote.
Police MDT purchase: The council authorized purchase of mobile data terminal software and equipment for six police vehicles from Central Square Technologies LLC for an amount not to exceed $7,540.95; the purchase will be made from the police department capital fund. Miss Gubby moved the procurement and the motion carried.
Street-maintenance RFP: Staff described a proposed 2026 street-maintenance RFP (milling, limited overlay, restriping) focused on Main Street and the corridor near Chieftain Park, with a bid deadline of June 11 and contract consideration expected June 15; council authorized advertisement of the RFP and retained the right to reject all bids.
