Committee ratifies small electrical credit and authorizes DCED grant application for Wayne Elementary

During its June 2 meeting, the Facilities Committee of Radnor Township SD approved two routine business items: ratification of an electrical contract credit and authorization to apply for a DCED facilities grant.

Ratification: Staff presented a ratification of a change order for a credit to BSI, the electrical contractor that worked on last summer’s temporary HVAC project at Ethan Elementary. According to staff, the credit is for unused allowances and will lower the contract sum by $5,387.14 so the district can reconcile final pay and close the electrical contract. Staff explained that, under the AIA agreement, any change to the original contract sum must be approved by the school board. Committee members voiced approval and the item was moved forward for final reconciliation.

Grant authorization: Staff presented a resolution authorizing district officials to apply for the DCED Public School Facilities Improvement Grant, which supports projects with minimum estimated costs of $500,000 and maximums up to $5 million. The district identified masonry repairs (repointing deteriorated brick, targeted wall replacement) and roof coating work at Wayne Elementary as the project that would align with the grant. Staff said any grant award would supplement the district’s capital plan and could reduce district cash used for that planned work; committee members commended staff for pursuing grants and asked follow‑up questions about how any excess grant funds would be managed by finance staff.
