Mr. Stokes told the court the county has acquired about 2,268 tons of an estimated 5,447 tons needed for the year; Brontex informed MEC that it was raising its price by roughly $5.50 per ton because of higher fuel and supply costs and MEC asked the county to allow the passed‑through increase. Stokes said the county verified the vendor's information and estimated that, if approved and fully passed to the remaining material needs (approx. 3,179 tons), the increase could add roughly $14,000 to the road‑materials line item for the year.
Commissioners discussed the procurement process and the county’s practice of contacting alternate awardees if a contractor seeks a price increase; the court approved the requested increase by voice vote.
Stokes said staff will continue to monitor commodity pricing and noted there is a chance of additional increases depending on market conditions.
