The Leverne Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the city’s fiscal year 2026–27 budget and a slate of ordinances and resolutions during its June 2 meeting.
Second reading and adoption of Ordinance 2026-08 — the annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 — was approved after the board noted that the ordinance text was revised to adopt the certified tax rate once the state provides it. Alderman Coats made the motion, Alderwoman Hobbs seconded and the motion carried on recorded roll-call affirmations.
The board also completed second readings and approved Ordinance 2026-09, which amends chapters 2, 4, 8 and 14 of the Leverne zoning ordinance to update definitions, planning areas, parking and driveway rules and administration and procedures. Ordinance 2026-10, amending the municipal residential code (Title 12, Chapter 6), was approved on second reading as well.
The board approved the consent agenda and took up new business for a first reading of Ordinance 2026-11, which proposes further amendments to Chapter 14 regarding zoning administration and procedures; the planning commission had given it a favorable recommendation. The first reading was moved without extended debate and will return for a second reading per standard procedure.
Resolutions approved included 2026-17, adopting a land-acquisition policy for additional rural property interests tied to the South Wal Road widening project; 2026-18, declaring certain city property surplus and directing disposal; and 2026-9, writing off designated water-department bad debts (the second was moved "with regret").
Votes and procedure: Votes on ordinances and resolutions were recorded during roll call; board members recorded "I" to indicate affirmation during multiple roll calls documented in the transcript. The meeting record shows motions made and seconded (for example, budget motion moved by Alderman Coats and seconded by Alderwoman Hobbs) and subsequent affirmative votes. No failed motions were recorded.
What’s next: Ordinance 2026-11 will return for a second reading. The budget ordinance takes effect per municipal procedures once the certified rate is incorporated, as noted by the board during adoption.
