Parker council adopts updated 2024 model traffic code with local amendments

The Parker Town Council on June 1 adopted ordinance 5.64.1 to repeal and re-adopt Section 7.01020 of the Parker Municipal Code, updating the town’s traffic code from the 2010 model to the 2024 model with several Parker-specific amendments.

Ms. Graymore, who presented the ordinance, said the update “allows us to use the most recent model traffic code” while retaining local adjustments. She highlighted changes that remove inapplicable provisions, clarify towing and parking enforcement language for special events, and spell out where electronic personal assistive mobility devices are permitted.

The changes also clarify crosswalk rules in Parker, Ms. Graymore said, explaining that the town’s approach allows crossing when it is not imminently dangerous in some locations while retaining stricter rules for safety-sensitive areas. "So again, it helps our traffic and protect our pedestrians," she told the council.

Councilmembers who questioned the presentation praised the local tailoring of the code and noted that the town had been operating under the 2010 model since that version better reflected conditions at the time. Members said bringing the code up to the 2024 model improves clarity for residents and police enforcement.

A motion to adopt the ordinance on second reading was made by Councilmember Hendrix and seconded by Councilmember Berington; the council recorded a roll call and the ordinance passed unanimously.

The action replaces the existing traffic code language with the updated model code plus the locally requested amendments; council members and staff said enforcement and local exceptions will remain under Parker authority. No implementation date beyond adoption was specified in the discussion.

The council moved on to other business after the vote.
