The council reviewed two time-sensitive funding items: a waiver for consulting services funded by a federal DOJ grant to support the mayor's office's anti-violence efforts, and an application to the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation's Love Your Block grant program.
On the consulting item (item 77), staff said the proposal is for an individual contractor described as "Tilman training and consulting," which previously worked with the mayor's office on violence-reduction efforts. Eric said the additional consulting would be supported by an existing federal DOJ grant. Council members asked for more detail; staff offered to provide further information before 1:00 p.m. the same day.
On item 78, Kimone Jordan of NBD presented a Love Your Block grant application. Jordan said the city and partners would receive about $270,000 if awarded, with roughly $200,000 directed to program fellows and $70,000 for program implementation and mini-grants to repurpose vacant lots. The proposed project would partner with Blueprint 15 and "Leila's Got You" to work in the East Adams neighborhood; Jordan said the grant deadline was time-sensitive but that an extension to June 15 had been obtained.
Councilors noted the time urgency for the grant application and asked staff to move forward accordingly. There was no recorded final vote or award at the meeting; both items were discussed and staff committed to follow-up detail and materials.
