Lancaster County orders study on vacating road in Prairie Home ahead of regrading work

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners on June 2 approved a resolution directing the county engineer to study the possible vacation of a portion of public road right-of-way near the unincorporated community of Prairie Home.
John Bur of Lancaster County Engineering described the sites under consideration as a primarily grass, minimum-maintenance two-lane path and an unused grass alley that an upcoming regrading and ditch project will affect. He said the study will produce a report and that a public hearing will follow, similar to the hearing process used for other road vacation requests.
The resolution passed on a unanimous roll call. Commissioners said the study will allow staff to prepare options and legal descriptions before any final action on vacating the right-of-way.
No vote on vacating the road was taken on June 2; the board only directed the engineer to complete the study and deliver a report for a future hearing.
