Jenkintown to re-advertise paving contract and seek PennDOT payment-extension to keep 2024 work on schedule

Jenkintown Borough Council voted to re-advertise the 2024 road paving project (contract 24-06) after staff reported the original bid opening received no offers.
Borough engineer Mark Vickerton told council the quickest route to get the Walnut Street paving project (Walnut from Washington to Green) completed this year is to rebid the contract immediately rather than pursue a PennDOT solicitor review, which could take roughly six weeks. Staff recommended aggressive outreach for the rebid and obtaining a PennDOT payment-extension if needed; the extension would move the payment deadline from the current schedule to Oct. 31.
Council approved a motion to re-advertise, to request the PennDOT extension of the payment period, and to seek a waiver of the RCO waiting period, with the goal of bringing an award recommendation to council in October. Engineers said even with an extension, weather remains a constraint for completing paving this calendar year.
The motion to re-advertise and pursue the extension was seconded and approved unanimously. Council asked staff to prepare the advertisement and timeline for the October committee or council meeting.
