Knox County received $200,000 SS4A planning grant; committee to be formed

The chair reported the county was awarded a $200,000 SS4A (Safer Streets for All) federal planning grant that will fund a planning process for pedestrian and roadway safety improvements.
The chair and council member Drew Porter recently met with Federal Highway for a kickoff meeting and said a contract with Federal Highway is under review. The chair said the county will form a committee to begin developing ideas and a scope of work for how the planning funds will be used, and that more information will follow once the contract is executed.
"We received a $200,000 planning grant," the chair said, adding officials would have more to share after the contract is reviewed and a committee is appointed.
No specific projects were approved at the meeting; commissioners discussed that the funding creates opportunities for corridor-level safety work and that staff will convene stakeholders to recommend next steps.
