Commissioners ask staff to draft higher road-cut fee and new compaction standards

The staff member also proposed tighter compaction and restoration standards, saying the repair should be compacted with No. 53 stone and the top 6 inches should be filled with concrete or asphalt installed in lifts for better compaction. “When they cut the road I would like to raise it to $500,” the staff member said, adding that better compaction would reduce future maintenance costs on paved roads.
Commissioners asked staff to draft formal policy language and work with council member Drew Porter on a written proposal before the matter returns to the board. One commissioner noted the $500 figure was a placeholder and asked staff to determine the true cost of repairs before setting a final fee.
The board did not vote on a fee change at the meeting; members agreed to table the item and review a draft ordinance or administrative rule after staff provides cost estimates and specific language for enforcement and specification of materials.
