City staff reminds residents of June–September fertilizer restrictions

Staff informed the Natural Resources Board on June 2 that the City of Sebastian’s fertilizer ordinance includes a prohibited-application period from June 1 through Sept. 30 covering fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus, and that outreach materials and an infographic have been prepared for public distribution.
"The fertilizer ordinance has a prohibited application period for certain types of fertilizers, especially when it comes to nitrogen and phosphorus during the month of June, July, August and September," staff member Felicia Gordian said, noting the city will post materials online and can provide paper copies to board members for distribution. She recommended native landscaping and potassium blends as alternatives to nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing products.
Board members asked questions about outreach and alternatives; staff said the city will post the infographic to the Natural Resources Board page and on municipal social media, and can provide the ordinance verbiage on request.
