Blanco County to use SB22 funds for victim-notification duties; county attorney names part-time coordinator

Blanco County’s county attorney told the commissioners on Nov. 25 that the county applied for SB22 funds to support expanded statutory victim-notification and assistance requirements and recommended using the funds to provide a stipend for the additional duties. The attorney said the county lacks a full-time victim-assistance coordinator and that the updated legislative requirements expand notification obligations to a wider class of victims, including some misdemeanors.
Adele War Morland agreed to take on victim-notification duties (with additional training and a stipend); the county attorney said the county may ultimately need to hire a part-time victim-assistance coordinator but expects SB22 funds to cover the interim stipend needs. The court moved to authorize the county judge to enter the grant agreement for the Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistance Program (award I0000237 for FI25) and the motion carried by voice vote.
Separately, the county attorney announced the hiring of Sandre Wright as an assistant prosecutor to fill reduced hours left by Jack Bacon, who plans to reduce hours ahead of retirement. Wright will handle CPS and other county attorney office duties. The appointments and SB22 authorization aim to ensure statutory victim-notification requirements are met without overburdening current staff.
