Highway Superintendent Carl told the board crews had worked “27 straight hours of snow” on Jan. 24 and outlined the bids submitted for the project. He said the Community Crossings grant would fund $870,355.36 of the work and the county’s match will be $217,588.84, a combined total of $1,087,944.20. Carl recommended acceptance of the lowest bid and commissioners moved and seconded the recommendation. The motion carried by a 3-0 voice vote.
The recommendation followed a comparison of multiple bids; Carl said two other contractors either declined or said the work was outside their scope. Commissioners thanked the highway crews for extensive winter work and noted interagency coordination during the storms.
The contract award was approved under the board’s usual procurement authority; no contract number was provided in the meeting. The board did not discuss a construction schedule or anticipated start date during the meeting.
The next procedural step is for county staff to finalize contracting paperwork with the selected vendor and proceed under the terms of the Community Crossings matching grant.
