Senior center schedules July 10 barbecue, urges residents to vote for new tables at June 4 town meeting

"The summer newsletter was delivered to homes about two weeks ago," the presenter said, noting those highlights.
The presenter said the free July 10 barbecue at noon will be held at the senior center and is funded by the Kelly family in memory of Rosemary Kelly; although there is no admission charge, reservations are required. The presenter also said the Lions Club will supply volunteers but that whether the event is self-catered or catered will depend on attendance.
Commissioners emphasized one item that requires townwide action: the purchase of 16 new wheeled, locking tables for the senior center. Suzanne Susi reminded attendees that a capital item for new tables is on the June 4 town meeting agenda and asked members and supporters to attend and vote in favor of the purchase.
Members discussed logistics for replacing the old tables, which were described as heavy and increasingly unsafe; one member reported a table collapsed while being moved. The commission noted that the purchase order would be for 16 tables so the center could arrange four across and stack the remainder. The group did not have a final plan for disposition of the existing tables; one member said that decision would fall to the board of selectmen.
