The hiring timeline drew unanimous support as members stressed the value of on-the-job overlap. When asked who would post the opening, the police chief replied, “No, I’ll do it,” indicating the department would handle the posting.
Members also discussed pay. The committee described the role as currently at "pay grade seven," quoting a range as "2246 up to 2528." Members asked whether starting pay could be set at a higher grade so the advertised starting step would be more competitive; no formal change in the pay grade was enacted during the meeting. Committee members noted that other departments' pay ranges fell within a similar range.
A committee member moved to proceed with the recommended job description and hiring timeline; another member seconded the motion. The committee voted verbally in favor and the motion carried.
The committee did not take further formal action at the meeting; the posting and subsequent steps will proceed under the department's direction.
