Selectboard transfers 1953 'Engine 5' Jeep to Waldoboro Fire Association

A selectboard member moved and the board approved transferring ownership of the town’s 1953 fire vehicle known as Engine 5 (a converted Jeep) to the Waldoboro Fire Association.
Staff described the vehicle as last used in the mid-2000s, overweight for modern specifications, currently on tires not legal for road use and not insurable in its present condition. The association plans to relocate and restore the vehicle; staff said the Mid-Coast School of Technology could assist with mechanical work so the association would only need to cover parts.
A board member said transferring Engine 5 will free up space in the fire bay and place restoration responsibility with the association. The motion was seconded and approved without further amendment.
No additional town funding was authorized for the transfer; the association will assume ownership and responsibility for restoration and future maintenance.
