Council approves cooperative contracts, sewage planning module and temporary deputy controller; introduces Bills 46–48
Summary
At the June 3 meeting the council approved R68 (cooperative contracts), consent-item R69 (sewage planning module) and R70 (temporary deputy controller) by unanimous roll call and introduced Bills 46–48 (police deferred retirement option plan, PFAS remediation appropriation of $649,139.15, and a $322,955.50 parks appropriation).
Allentown City Council approved several procedural and budget items on June 3 and introduced three new ordinances for committee review.
The council approved R68, authorizing cooperative contracts with vendors including Horwath Trucks Inc., Environmental Systems Research, Granicus LLC and Lobar Associates for items exceeding $40,000. The roll-call vote was unanimous.
Under the consent agenda the council approved R69, which noted available sewage capacity for a planning module for 1008 South 6th Street (Be Realty 16 LLC) and R70, which appointed a temporary deputy controller for the city until an interim controller is named. Both passed 7–0 on roll-call votes.
Councilmembers then introduced three ordinances for referral to committees: Bill 46 (amending pension code to add a limited deferred retirement option plan for police officers; referred to a special committee with a public hearing scheduled June 10), Bill 47 (a supplemental 2026 capital fund appropriation of $649,139.15 from PFAS settlement payments to fund PFAS remediation systems; referred to Public Works), and Bill 48 (a $322,955.50 supplemental appropriation to Parks and Recreation, including a city match of $18,280.50, for the Trexler capital project; referred to Parks & Rec). These introductions set the items for committee review and subsequent hearings or votes.
