East Lyme honors student leaders and says farewell to exchange student Abdul

The board opened the meeting by recognizing student leadership award recipients from East Lyme Middle and East Lyme High School. Principals Mr. Kidd and Mrs. Kelly presented awards to middle-school recipients including Cara Miller and Colin Lowry and congratulated two high-school students chosen by faculty.
Later, the board welcomed exchange student Abdul from Pakistan. Abdul told the meeting he arrived in August, joined the fencing team and other student activities, thanked his host family and said he was saddened to learn the exchange program would be paused next year because of cuts in the outside program. "Since then I've had an amazing year with all my friends and everybody I met the high school," Abdul said.
No formal action was taken; the board took photos and extended good wishes to graduates and recognized upcoming events including awards nights and graduation.
