UT West Tennessee Research Center schedules weed-tour for producers and family Garden Buzz for Pollinator Week

Tate Cronin and Hayden Lever of the University of Tennessee’s West Tennessee Research & Education Center described two June events aimed at different audiences: a professional Weed Tour (June 17) for agricultural producers focused on herbicide resistance and replicated field trials, and the family-friendly Garden Buzz (June 24) timed with National Pollinator Week.
“The Weed Tour is more aimed at agricultural producers,” Lever said, adding that attendees typically see replicated trials, walk field plots and discuss strategies for herbicide resistance. Organizers expect roughly 150 agricultural producers at the Weed Tour; the event begins at about 8:30 a.m. and runs until lunchtime.
Garden Buzz is an hour-and-a-half community event from noon to 1:30 p.m. featuring vendors, master gardeners, honey tastings, a garden tour and free plants for attendees. Cronin said Garden Buzz is designed to be family friendly and encouraged residents to attend without registration; both events are free to the public.
The Research & Education Center emphasized hands-on field demonstrations at the Weed Tour and a guided garden tour at Garden Buzz; attendees should wear appropriate footwear for field walking at the Weed Tour and can expect educational activities at Garden Buzz.
