University of Memphis planetarium expands summer schedule, debuts new projector

“The feature lasts about half an hour,” Wood said of the regular evening shows, which the program schedules Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Friday at 1:30 p.m.; children’s shows are shorter and run Fridays at 3:45 p.m. during the school break. Wood described the new main show, Time, Space, and noted a separate kids program called The Cowboy Astronomer.
Wood said the planetarium recently installed a new projector—replacing one she said had been in use for more than a decade—which improves image quality. The theater seats about 60 people, and admission for the announced summer shows is free.
The planetarium team also plans to show winners from the Astronomer Photographer of the Year contest on June 12. Wood encouraged families to check program descriptions before attending; some regular shows are more science-focused and may be better suited to older children.
The planetarium is at the University of Memphis Lambuth campus; visitors should consult the planetarium’s schedule for details and any holiday closures.
