Committee forwards City Hall main‑entrance ADA improvements and other bids to June 16 consent agenda

City staff presented the City Hall main entrance ADA improvements project to the Land Use & Transportation Committee on June 1, asking authorization to finish design and go out to bid.

Project elements include ramps to connect lower and upper parking and a path to 8th Avenue South, replacement of the non‑compliant sunburst sidewalk at the front door if budget allows, elevated crosswalks across the parking areas, lighting upgrades, and possible repaving of the main entrance drive. Staff said design is approximately 85% complete and estimated total project cost at about $350,000.

During council discussion, staff explained the slope constraints that require the ramp to go out and back through tree‑lined areas, noted that a few trees between lower and upper parking would be removed for constructibility and visibility, and said the project is designed to avoid loss of parking. Councilmembers asked about ramp steepness, ADA parking availability, timeline and construction impacts; staff said bidding would occur this summer with completion targeted for late fall if schedules hold.

The committee moved and seconded a motion to forward authorization to bid for the City Hall main entrance ADA improvements to the June 16, 2026 consent agenda; the motion passed unanimously.

Separately, the committee also heard a presentation from staff seeking authorization to bid the 2026 major asphalt patching contract (arterial patching, including Warehouser Way). Staff said construction would be funded in part from street vacation proceeds and estimated construction cost near $175,000 with total proposed project cost of about $195,000. That motion to forward authorization to bid was also moved, seconded and approved unanimously.

Both items will appear on the June 16 consent agenda for final council action.
