Hillsborough County honors local high‑school players with 2026 Wade Boggs awards

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners presented the 2026 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award at its June 3 meeting. Ken Hagan, chair of the board, explained the award’s history and the selection committee’s role in recognizing high‑school baseball players for athletic performance, academic achievement and community service.
Winston Pennant (Sumner High), Matthew Altman (Gaither, honored in absentia), and Wilson Anderson (Jesuit High) were recognized; Wilson Anderson received the award and spoke briefly, thanking coaches, teammates and the community. Commissioners and coaches highlighted season statistics, GPA and volunteer activities for each honoree.
Chair Hagan also asked the room to observe a moment of silence in memory of Tony Saladino, a longtime local baseball figure, and thanked the volunteer selection committee.
The recognition was ceremonial and no board action beyond presentations and thanks was required.
