IU Health West Lafayette buildout approved conditionally; county, applicant to re-submit city trail petition next month

The Tippecanoe County Drainage Board granted construction approval for the full buildout of the IU Health West Lafayette hospital site but noted a procedural follow-up: county staff said they had not received a petition for a trail encroachment the city requested, and the applicant agreed to re-submit the petition for consideration at the next meeting.
Megan Short of American Structurepoint introduced the project and said the team revised previously approved plans from a wet detention pond to an infiltration basin, a change she said was reviewed and approved by BFNS. She described the site as roughly 22 acres discharging to the Hadley Lake legal drain and said the project includes hospital facilities, parking, a helipad and a truck dock.
County staff stated they had not received the petition for the trail referenced by the applicant and asked the applicant, Jordan and county staff to locate and re-submit the petition. The county said that without the petition being on file, trail approval cannot be completed at this meeting and the petition must be approved at the next drainage board meeting if it is not located by then.
The board approved construction as recommended in the BFNS memo dated May 22, 2026, with recorded direction to follow up on the trail petition. The transcript records the applicant saying the petition "is in the share file" and staff agreeing to coordinate to ensure it is provided to the county office.
