"These trucks weigh 80,000 pounds… I live just before Bellamy Road and there are considerable violations," Wade said, recounting observers’ recent counts of frequent dump‑truck traffic and damaged mirrors on personal vehicles. He urged the board to consider truck‑restriction designations, speed reductions, and measures such as speed cushions and targeted enforcement.
Public Works answered that no formal weight restriction currently applies to Coral Farms Road and that a developer (Krebs Land Development) previously conducted core samples showing the pavement could tolerate the loads the developer proposed. The county will not lightly restrict agricultural or bona fide business access, staff said, but commissioners asked Public Works and the sheriff’s office to return with specific engineering and enforcement options, including signage, speed trailers, and times for targeted patrols.
The board did not adopt an immediate ordinance or weight limit at the meeting; it directed staff to study potential traffic calming, to coordinate with law enforcement on enforcement windows, and to bring back recommendations to a future meeting.
