Board chair to depart; members discuss timing and process for officer election

At the State Designer Selection Board meeting on May 26, 2026, the board’s Chair announced she will leave the board effective Jan. 1, 2027, and said the board should elect new officers at its first meeting after June 30. The Chair urged members to prepare for the transition.

The Chair said, “I am gone and out of here on 01/01/2027,” and suggested it would be prudent for the board to elect a new chair in the first meeting after June 30. She added that the position carries minimal additional time, saying, “Almost almost none. I just wing it,” and described the role mainly as handling intermittent administrative items and occasionally convening meetings.

A member asked whether the board follows Robert’s Rules of Order; the Chair said the board tries to keep meetings on time and lets everyone be heard but has not needed to strictly invoke Robert’s Rules. Clerk Kenya was asked to send a reminder about term lengths so members do not elect someone into only a short remaining term; the clerk and Chair confirmed there will be a formal meeting to consider nominations and that members may self-nominate or be nominated at the appropriate time.

The Chair asked members to send any comments about succession to Clerk Kenya by email. No formal election took place at the May 26 meeting; the board will address officer elections at the first meeting after June 30.
