The Coffey County Commission on May 26 approved a series of routine personnel and contracting actions, including payroll notices, service agreements and road project contracts.
Commissioners voted to approve payroll notices for several county employees and interns: Ty Steffens (Sheriff intern, temporary hire, $15.96, effective May 11, 2026), Ken Waner (Lake Patrol Coordinator, promotion and wage increase effective May 16), Gabriel Metcalfe (Highway mechanic, step change effective May 23), Lynsey Davenport (County Attorney summer intern, new hire, $15.96, hours not to exceed 1,000) and Kahne Truelove (County Attorney summer intern, rehire, $16.25, hours not to exceed 1,000). The motions were moved and seconded by commissioners and recorded as passed in the minutes.
The commission approved a $3,750 contract with uR Solutions to generate countywide 2‑foot contour lines and a hillshade image from 2018 LIDAR data and authorized the chairman to sign. It also approved a preventative maintenance agreement with MEI Total Elevator Solutions for bi‑monthly service on two elevators at 625 Neosho St. for $6,400 per year; a second MEI agreement for quarterly service on an elevator at 110 S 6th St. (at $2,495 per year) was moved but tabled. The board authorized contract documents with Killough Construction for Hot Mix Project No. A2603‑C and A2604‑C.
The board waived landfill fees for Jacob and Kristen Sutton of Waverly and for Doug Trester of LeRoy. Based on a recommendation from the sheriff, commissioners also authorized solicitation of sealed bids for the Quad Plex Water Softening System Project, with bids due by 5:00 PM Friday, June 19.
Minutes show the board handled the items by motion; the minutes do not include individual roll‑call vote tallies, only that motions passed. The meeting record also includes two executive sessions convened for personnel matters under K.S.A. 75‑4319(b)(1). The commission recessed at 12:13 PM and is scheduled to reconvene May 28 for additional business and to sign warrants and vouchers.
