Trustees approve $1,000 for Saint Vrain Valley Schools’ Supplies for Success program

The Town of Frederick Board of Trustees voted unanimously June 3 to provide $1,000 to the Saint Vrain Valley Schools Education Foundation’s Supplies for Success program, which supplies backpacks and school supplies to students with financial need.
Michelle Phelan, who said she represents the foundation, told trustees the districtwide initiative serves more than 4,700 students and that the Frederick feeder area accounts for about 684 students. She said the program purchases supplies wholesale, coordinates volunteers to pack backpacks, and delivers materials through the school district’s distribution channels.
Phelan asked the board for $1,000 to help cover Frederick-area needs; a trustee moved to contribute $1,000, a second was recorded, and the motion passed 5–0. Trustees and Phelan discussed how the foundation scales supplies to avoid waste and how schools distribute backpacks to students identified by registrars or school staff.
The foundation said the $1,000 would amount to roughly $1.46 per Frederick student and would be used specifically for the Supplies for Success program. Trustees thanked Phelan for the long-running program and its volunteer base.
