Dr. Marlene Chavis, representing NMSU Grants, reviewed enrollment and program data, reporting an annual headcount of about 1,836 students and that roughly 80% of students attend part time; she said female students account for about 71% of the college population. Chavis described steady increases in degrees and certificates awarded (139 this past year), recent capital work that finished the Martinez Hall exterior and roof, and planned capital requests for the coming year.
Chavis told the board the campus will ask voters in November to approve $1 million in severance‑tax funding for electronic access controls; staff also plan a separate $2 million capital outlay request to upgrade campus‑wide storage and HVAC/electrical systems. She said the college is pursuing stronger district partnerships to expand dual‑credit pathways in allied health, nursing and other CTE areas.
Superintendent Widner moved the budget for approval; the motion was seconded and approved on roll call. Board members thanked campus leaders for the partnership and for presenting the operating plan and capital priorities.
