Union Vale board reviews grants, parks repairs and technology options; resident suggests memorial bench

The Town Board of Union Vale used its June 3 meeting to hear a range of operational updates, from grant opportunities to parks repairs and technology evaluations, and to accept one public comment during the session.
Supervisor Frasier reported attending a regional mayors and supervisors meeting where he learned about potential bridge grants and said representatives from law enforcement described new technology they are using; he invited the district attorney and sheriff to present to the board at a future meeting. Councilman Raden said the Hudson Valley Regional Council announced Climate Smart Community grant rounds (deadline mid–late July) and noted Union Vale’s bronze Climate Smart status could make the town eligible for mitigation funds that might help address flood‑prone areas.
Parks staff reported that a fire suppression system at the park building developed multiple pinhole leaks discovered on May 6, causing water intrusion and mold growth in the large hall ceiling; Surf Pro and a mold specialist were retained to assess damage and develop remediation plans. The large pool motor was sent for diagnosis; no timeline for full repairs was provided. Board members agreed to post the departing maintenance employee’s job on Indeed and to attempt overlap with the outgoing staffer.
Board members discussed reviving a firewood‑harvesting permit for town properties (last used in 2012). Several members flagged liability concerns and asked the town attorney to review existing documentation and draft a waiver or policy if appropriate.
On technology, the board discussed Brightly asset‑management software. Members said Brightly offers a trial for some users but that a meaningful evaluation might require months; the vendor may offer a price reduction and members will compare Brightly to lighter, cheaper options that charge per user. Highway staff reported antenna testing showing equipment performing at expected levels; discussion focused on whether antenna position or an upgraded county‑wide antenna arrangement would reduce coverage gaps for plow crews and other field staff, balanced against cost.
Resident Heidi Tucci of 95 Bloomer Road thanked the Union Vale Fire Department for Memorial Day observances, offered to provide a copy of an existing firewood permit, and urged greater participation by local businesses in community night. She suggested "it would be really great if there was some kind of a stone bench there where you could sit" at the memorial site.
The board moved to pay bills (motion carried with one opposition) and later entered executive session to receive legal advice on a potential liability and to discuss a personnel matter; upon return the board reported no funds were designated and no decisions were made. The next meeting was set for June 17 at 7:30 p.m.
