Residents press mailbox reimbursement, city denies Anthony's strip-club rumor as City Square events begin

A resident urged the council to revisit an ordinance that caps the city’s mailbox reimbursement at $100 after snow-plow damage, calling that amount "unfair" for people whose replacements cost more and suggesting the city consider a case-by-case approach. Council staff said ordinance changes would have to go through the formal process and said they would look into the issue.
Council members addressed a rumor circulating on social media that someone had sought permission to open a strip club at the closed Anthony's restaurant. City Manager Beth Batie said, "We have not been approached with that at all by anyone. So it's just a rumor on Facebook." Dan, a city staff member, backed that statement when asked.
A separate complaint about torn-up parkways following street work prompted staff to ask for exact locations so the city can schedule restorations. Another caller raised concerns about missing handrails in stairwells between City Square and the parking deck; Greg said the handrail had been reinstalled last week and is in place.
Council members also called up Ann Sylvester to promote City Square’s opening-week programming: a 7 a.m. workout, swing-dance instruction, a country-music performance by Laura Bryna, 'Sounds on 66' with the Righteous Hillbillies, and a Star Wars family event with the Joliet Public Library.
Finally, the council voted to enter a closed session to discuss personnel, collective bargaining, land acquisition/conveyance and pending or threatened litigation; the motion carried after a voice vote.
