The planned scope includes adjusting grades behind the senior center to provide a more direct van‑accessible route, addressing drainage issues and reconfiguring sidewalks to line up with the front door. Staff said they expect to return in the fall with sketches and a proposed approach.
On costs, staff discussed an order‑of‑magnitude estimate and described the work as "probably be a sizable like $75,000, you know, 50–75,000"; commissioners and staff treated the figure as preliminary and said a firmer number will follow once designs are prepared. "Once I have a game plan, you'll hear from me in the fall with kind of some sketches and what we think," staff said.
Commissioners also discussed a proposed project‑initiation process to prioritize and vet projects before budgeting, which would dovetail with a townwide space‑need study. The ACE building was cited as an example where first‑floor access work and reconfiguration may be advanced; staff noted some earmarked funds and consultant work is underway but broader space‑need work is still being planned and may require grant support.
Next steps: staff will develop initial sketches for the senior center and report back in the fall; the commission and administration will coordinate the project‑initiation approach with the town council and look for grant opportunities to support the space‑need study and associated work.
