Birdhouse kits, leaf survey and outreach plans discussed for Irondequoit farmers markets
Summary
Committee members reviewed farmers-market activities, deciding to postpone a children’s birdhouse project because of a kit shortage, planned a leaf-feasibility survey with printed forms and a QR code, and discussed dates for climate-smart tabling in July and August.

Committee members discussed a slate of farmers-market activities — from a children’s birdhouse craft to a leaf-feasibility survey and climate-smart tabling — and adjusted plans after volunteers reported limited supplies.
One volunteer said the birdhouse activity must be postponed because the volunteer who assembles kits currently has fewer than 10 ready. “He’s got less than 10,” the volunteer said, and members agreed they would either run a smaller activity or postpone until more kits are prepared or wood is donated.
Members also described plans to table at the farmers market to collect resident input on a leaf-feasibility survey using printed surveys and a QR code. One committee member offered to staff the market on the 18th and group members discussed tentatively scheduling climate-smart outreach on July 23 or July 30.
Why it matters: the farmers market is a regular town venue for public engagement, providing an opportunity to both gather community feedback (leaf-feasibility survey) and advance Climate Smart Communities outreach. The committee also discussed other market programming planned for August, such as recycling and composting displays.
What’s next: committee members will look for donated materials to build more birdhouse kits or reschedule the activity, circulate the leaf-survey materials, and staff outreach tables on agreed dates this summer.
