Gambling Control Board upholds $1,000 citation for Knights of Columbus Council 1551

At its March 16 meeting the Minnesota Gambling Control Board voted to uphold a $1,000 citation issued to Knights of Columbus Council 1551 of Montevideo (License 02514). Director Laura Wade told the board she had reviewed the organization's appeal and elected to uphold the citation; the Compliance Review Group had also upheld the director's decision after the organization failed to appear at the CRG hearing on February 17.

Board member Mike Sundin moved to uphold the citation; Al deJesus seconded the motion and the motion carried. The meeting minutes record the board's action but do not list individual roll-call votes or a vote tally.

The meeting also recorded several routine approvals: transfers and contribution requests contained in Exhibits A, I and K were approved; Exhibit S (manufacturers' games requests) was approved; the requests listed in Exhibit M were approved and those in Exhibit N were denied. Board member Doug Forsman commented for the record that two of the three denials in Exhibit N were due to organizations' failure to notify the Gambling Control Board within 60 days of discovering a loss, a procedural requirement that, Forsman said, could have been avoided.

During discussion of transfers, Mike Sundin asked who owns the Crookston Firefighters building. Enforcement Manager Brett McKeever confirmed the building is owned by Crookston Firefighters and noted that, as a 501(c)(3), the organization is able to donate to itself. The board announced the next meeting for April 20, 2026, and adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
