Board approves trench drain to stop basement flooding at 79 Main Street

The East Hampton Design Review Board on June 18 approved an application to install a trench drain along the northeast side of 79 Main Street to prevent water from the brick sidewalk from entering the building’s basement. Jim McMullen, representing the applicant, said the brick walkway currently channels water into the basement and that the plan calls for removing a row of bricks, installing a trench drain and piping it to a dry well, and waterproofing the interior foundation wall.
“...what we want to do is put a trench drain in there and then from the inside waterproof that foundation wall,” McMullen said, describing the work as necessary to address recurring drainage into the cellar. Board members indicated they had no objections to the approach and moved to approve the application.
The board approved the motion by voice vote. The approval authorizes the exterior trench-drain work described at the hearing; any changes to the scope or materials will require the applicant to return to the board for further review.
