The Bay Shore Union Free School District recognized a large group of retiring employees at a board meeting segment that included individual tributes, a group photograph and brief procedural votes.
The presenter introduced the evening as a celebration of ‘‘an incredible group of people’’ who have spent decades serving district students, and asked retirees to reflect on what retirement means. The presenter also invited the audience to guess the retirees’ combined years of service and announced the total as roughly 630 years.
Speakers singled out staff from many roles. The board honored a longtime security officer praised for calming presence and a life‑saving response to a colleague’s heart emergency; teachers and paraprofessionals were recognized for classroom leadership and mentorship; custodial staff were thanked for decades of behind‑the‑scenes work that keeps buildings safe and clean; and the district’s lunch manager was credited with operating food services across eight buildings, developing menu options (including a halal menu) and steering meal service through the COVID‑19 period.
Among those named were Monica Adisani, Maryanne Bizonio, Stephanie Cox, Renell Curtis, Katherine (Kathy) Frank, Conrad "Chip" Giuliano, Richard Jackson, Thomas Kennedy, Anna O’Shea, Regina Aquat, Kelly Owen, Janine Quicker and Adella Rodriguez. The presenter read tributes describing each retiree’s role, years of service and plans for retirement.
The board also acknowledged Mrs. Patricia Rogers for her leadership of the district’s ENL and dual‑language programs and the high school seal of biliteracy; the transcript notes she initially "declined" (indicated in the meeting record) and was then recognized for building and refining those programs.
A student or other meeting participant led the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the ceremony. Procedurally, the board moved to enter a work session early in the meeting and later moved to exit the session; both motions were seconded and carried on voice votes, with the chair confirming the affirmative response.
The event closed with instructions for retirees to line up for certificates and an invitation for a group photo with the board and Dr. Maloney. The board thanked the retirees on behalf of students, staff and the community and wished them well in retirement.
No formal board actions on policy or budget were recorded in the recognition segment itself; the meeting’s procedural motions (entering and exiting a work session) were routine and passed by voice vote.
