Several Livonia residents used the study session's 30-minute public comment period to press city leaders on public safety financing and public transit. Steve King, who identified himself as representing Country Gardens, urged voters to reject the proposed public safety millage, calling the city’s warnings about cuts a "scare tactic" and accusing the city of shifting general fund dollars into "nonessential capital projects" rather than funding core services. "Public safety is not a luxury or an optional add on," King said, adding that a dedicated millage lets the city free up general fund money that he alleged "gets diverted away from essential services and into nonessential capital projects."
