The Del City Council on June 1 approved continuing an agreement with Midwest City to provide household hazardous-waste (HHW) disposal services to Del City residents. Stormwater staff said the arrangement supports the city’s MS4 compliance requirements and helps keep hazardous materials out of local creeks and drinking-water sources.
Stormwater MS4 administrator Chris Jroy told council that the HHW program satisfies a measurable control (MCM6) in the city’s stormwater management plan and that participation has grown: "Last year we had 9,675 pounds of household hazardous waste delivered to City of Midwest City," he said, while urging staff to promote the program more widely.
Staff noted the service operates by appointment and that residents must show a valid driver’s license and a Del City utility bill for free disposal. The city will add appointment information and approved-item flyers to the municipal website.
Council members asked about ancillary disposal services such as tires; staff said they will follow up with Midwest City contacts to confirm current tire-collection options and report back.
The motion to approve the agreement passed by recorded vote with council members voting in favor.
