The Pipestone Area Chamber of Commerce received council approval for two holiday events: a nighttime, lighted parade Friday, Dec. 6, with lineup at 5 p.m. and a projected conclusion by 6 p.m., and a Santa visit and family activities Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to about noon.
Erica Vro of the chamber said the parade would be a modest two-block route along Third Avenue Northwest and downtown, timed not to conflict with an evening concert. The chamber said it had the support of Public Works and the fire department for traffic control and safety. Council approved the parade permit by voice vote.
For the Dec. 7 Santa visit, Vro said the chamber wants to use city building facilities for restrooms and set-up, coordinate crafts with county volunteers, and provide photo opportunities and a place for children to drop off letters to Santa. The chamber also asked to temporarily swap in red/green bulbs for existing decorative lights; staff raised no objection. Council approved both requests by voice vote.
The chamber said registration and participation details will be posted on the chamber website and social media and via the chamber newsletter.
